Overall, I'm fairly happy with the way my video and posters turned
out. I followed my idea as best as I could and managed to achieve
something that I both enjoyed working on and am proud of.

I believe that my project was fairly successful as it does what
it's intended to do; it clearly shows what my product is as well
as showing the brand and appeal to the product. I successfully
made 3 print adverts as well as a 30 TV advert, all of which I'm
satisfied with, although there are things I would change about
them all to further improve them.

When creating the idea for my TV advert, I watched a few different
videos on YouTube and TV to see what others have made and what is
popular with its viewers. I found that many of these adverts are
made, in a way, to appeal to both genders in the sense that for
woman it will make them smell nice and attractive, and for men it
will make a woman more desirable for them. Most perfume adverts
show beautiful women doing things that normal people wouldn’t do
in everyday life, such as riding a horse along the beach wearing a
white dress or being chased down by dozens of attractive men; they
all paint a picture of a glamorous life which appeals to many
people as they too want a life like that, even though the product
will not at all help them to achieve this lifestyle. It gives them
the impression this product will help them achieve a somewhat
glamorous life, just by using the perfume.

I believe that my adverts create the same feeling because they
show an appealing lifestyle and happiness, which is something that
everyone strives for in life, and they show this through use of
colour, music, and overall visual appeal. My video, for example,
has a pink effect over the top of all the clips as pink can
represent love and happiness, creating an inviting and calming
visual for the audience to see. It adds a romantic feel to the
advert which is a common feature in perfume ads as, like I
mentioned before, perfume is an appeal for both men and women in
different ways.

My print adverts also represent happiness and love. They clearly
show what I am trying to advertise in an appealing, yet persuasive
way. The advert with the model on it shows the happiness and
calmness that the TV ad also shows; the sunset in the background
and her expression creates a calming feel to the ad as she looks
happy and as if she’s enjoying the moment she’s in. The other 2
adverts I created both show the perfume bottle clearly with text
describing the perfume, as well as a slogan on one which reads
toujours a vous” which is french for “always yours” which creates
a sense of belonging and romance. It shows that this is a timeless perfume which will never be outgrown, and is attractive and very appealing for people.

Although I am pleased with the way my adverts turned out, there are changes I would like to make if I had to complete this project again. For example, I don’t really like the last scene of graphics in the TV advert as it looks very rushed and not at all appealing for people. The perfume bottle is only half full which in a way could be positive as it shows its used a lot and is liked, but it’s always more appealing to see a full bottle as it just looks much more appealing to look at for the audience. I also would’ve liked to have the sun setting in the background as by the time I went to film, the sun had disappeared from the area creating quite a boring effect in some scenes. I would’ve liked to try out some different shots as well to make it even more appealing and interesting for people to watch, and maybe include another character.

The same goes for my print adverts; as pleased as I am with them there are definite changes I would make if I had to complete this project again. For example, advert number 1 is, I think, a bit dull and colourless. A bit of pink would’ve added some more colour and interest to the advert rather than having it as plain as it is. I am happy with the font style and the picture quality but again, the bottle is only half full which makes it look somewhat sloppy and unappealing.

Advert number 2 is probably my favourite as it looks so natural and appealing for the audience. My model I used for this posed well for this piece and the end result is something that I am proud of. Saying this though, there are things I would change about it. I would’ve liked to put some sort of pink filter over the top to fit with the theme of the TV advert and make it have the same happy and lovable feel to it as it looks fairly dull. I think the pink would’ve helped make it a lot better and more appealing. I’m also not a fan of the font as it doesn’t look like it’s actually part of the image, it looks like it’s just been put on there and doesn’t blend in too well.

Advert number 3 incorporates the pink unlike the other 2 adverts I made. I really like the colours in this as I think they all work well together and fit with the theme nicely. But again, the bottle is only half full and makes the ad less appealing. I like that Avon is clearly represented here as well as it lets people know who’s created the product. Avon is a very popular brand that has been going for a long time and is trusted by many, so by letting people know who’s made it will encourage them to want to buy it, especially if they own and enjoy products by them already.

When researching into this project, I would’ve liked to have gone about it a bit better in the sense that I was still researching and planning in the last week of the project. I wasn’t always prepared for what I was doing, especially with the print adverts as I had no idea what I was doing with them until I did it. In a way though I preferred it this was as it allowed me to experiment with different things and see what worked best for each individual advert, rather than having to work from a plan. I tend to find this easier sometimes, but I also think it would’ve helped a bit to have some sort of plan in place that I could follow.

When identifying my target audience, I thought about the product name and brand, which made me decide to aim it towards women from the ages of 18-30. I felt as though this was a good age bracket to use as it’s an affordable, youthful perfume which is evident in the adverts I have created. By using a young model shows that this is directed towards younger people and is more likely to appeal to them than it is to older people.

Like I previously stated, I am happy with the way all my pieces came out. There are things I would change about it all and I'm not 100% happy wit it, but I am still proud of what I have achieved over these few weeks of working. I hope that if I get the opportunity to do this again, it will turn out even better and will be more carefully thought out.
